The term post-modernism is usually in a confusing variety of ways for some it means anti-modern;for others it means the revision of modernist premises. It has become apparent to many that the worldview fostered through modernism(and by Western Human tradition)is flawed,corrupt and oppressive. So,if modernism is at its End,we are now facing a New Period... The name given this 'New Age' is 'Post-Modernism'. Now,Constructive Post-Modernism does not reject Modernism,but seeks to Revise its premises and traditional concepts. Like Deconstructive Post Modermism,it attempts to erase all boundaries to undermine ligitimacy and to dislodge the logic of the modernist state. Constructive Post-Modernist claims to offer a new unity of scientific,ethical,aesthetic and religious intuition[s]. Constructive Post-Modernism seeks to recover truths and values from various forms of preModern thought and practice. So,Post-Modernism postulates that many,if NOT ALL,apparent Realities are only social constructs and therefore subject to change. It claims that there is no 'Absolute Truth', emphasising the role of a cohesively [in]coherent Language,Power Relations and Motivations in the formulation of Ideas. In particular it attacks the use of sharp binary classifications. Conceptual Art is sometimes labeled as Post-Modern because it is expressly involved in [the] Deconstruction of what makes a work of art 'Art'. Conceptual,because it is often designed to confront;offend;or attack notions held by many who view it...,progressive: appropriation art debunks modernist notions of artistic genius and originality and is more ambivalent and contradictory than modern art,simultaneously installing and subverting ideologies,''being both critical and complicit'' Post-Modernism is seen perhaps as anti-modern in that it seems to destroy or eliminate the ingredients that are believed necessary for a worldview such as 'god'; 'self'; 'purpose'; 'meaning'; 'a real world';and 'truth'(this point of view,though,that we need a worldview comprised of notions of god/self/teleology etc...,is itself a modernist one,whether 'Absolute' or 'Relative'). Deconstructive Post-Modern thought is seen by some as #Nihilistic:(i.e. the view that all values are baseless,that nothing is totally comprehensible or can be communicated,and that Life itself is meaningless). Post-Modernism is deliberately illusive as a concept,avoiding as much as possible the modernist devise to classify and thereby delimit and confine. Post-Modernism part takes of uncertainty,insecurity,doubt,and accepts ambiguity. Whereas Modernism seeks closure in form and is concerned with conclusions. Post-Modernism is open,unbounded,and concerned with process&becoming... Post-Modern artists are reflexive in that they are self-aware and consciously involved in a process of thinking about 'self' and 'society' in a Decostructive manner, ''demasking'' pretensions becoming aware of our cultural self in History and accelerating the process of consciousness. [it should be clear that modernist culture is occidental and totally western in its orientation,capitalist in its determining economic tendecy,bourgeois in its class character,grey(black&white?)in its racial complexion and masculine(...or rather feminine??) in its dominant gender).
